In the year 1919, all was baseball and possibly a little basketball.

And the Great Founding Gods George and Curly did look upon the small town by the bay and saw not the cheesehead hats nor the giant foam rubber fingers nor anything that was of green and gold. And a great emptiness did beset the people.

And the Great Founding Gods George and Curly did beseech the Indian Packing Company. And lo, the Green Bay Packers did come unto the world.

And it was good.

And the Packers, being righteously of the people, by the people and for the people, did vanquish all who came before them. Well, mostly all.

And it was good.

And the Prophets Gene and Lisle did lead the Packers, in victory and defeat, to the dark days of the Prophet Scooter.

And it was not so good.

Then came the glory that was the Demigod Vince. And the Packers were led from the wilderness to the Nine Years of Wonder and the Times of Starr and Hornung and Taylor and McGee and Nitschke. And the Demigod Vince did twice lead the Packers through the very Gates of Heaven.

And it was very good.

And the Demigod Vince then did sadly take his leave. And there was much gnashing of teeth and rending of hair and shooting of dogs with the Prophets Phil, Dan, Bart, Forrest and Lindy. And the Great Darkness of the Decades did descend upon the land.

And the people were sore afraid.

And in the Darkness did they chant: "The Pack will be back. The Pack will be back. The Pack will be back." And the Darkness did rebuke the people and would not be driven hence.

And it was bad. Really, really bad.

And then came the Demigod Mike, who did banish the darkness to Chicago, causing great rejoicing and considerable tailgating among the people of the bay. And the Demigod Mike did again lead the Packers to New Times of Sharpe and White and Brooks and Butler and, oh yeah, Favre. And the Packers did twice return to the very Gates of Heaven.

And the people did much adorn themselves with hats of cheese and fingers of foam, and the green and gold did fly from many a vehicle.

And it was very, very good.

For a while.
